New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said there was a need to modify the defence procurement procedure (DPP) to bring more clarity on certain issues.

There was a need to cleanly classify the types of procurement, Parrikar said in an interview on Headlines Today news channel.

"The DPP 2013 (does) not (have) good clarity," he said.

Parrikar said his effort was to make the changes, preferably by March, after due deliberations.

He said issues that needed to be addressed in a more comprehensive manner include blacklisting, engaging Indian companies and offsets.

He also took a dig at former defence minister A.K. Antony, saying there was no proper application to find out what was lacking in war preparedness.

He said bullet-proof jackets had not been purchased for seven years and he had gone for "quick acquisition" of 50,000 such jackets.

Parrikar said there had not been any major procurement of guns after Bofors and he had cleared procurement of 814 guns for the army.
