Muslim leader raises voice of protest in presence of Sonia, Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: A Muslim leader from North-East Delhi Dr Fahim Beg today raised his voice of protest over what he called the negligence of minorities by the government at a conference organised by the Ministry

"I have gone through RTI and found that every year Rs 23 crore come for the welfare of minorities under the PM's 15-point programme for minorities to my North-East district, but the money goes back unspent.

"I wrote more than 150 letters to the Prime Minister's Office, but not a single letter was replied. I tried to contact over telephone, fax and mail, but was rebuffed. "

Dr Fahim Beg said, the government's intentions may be noble, but the ground reality was different. "The Deputy Commissioner of our district, and his subordinates sit on the money sent by the Centre, and do nothing. The money was supposed to be spent on health, education, social welfare of Muslims, but not a single penny was spent", he alleged.

The doctor said, in our district, 200 Muslim children cram into a single room to attend classes, there is one school for a population of 5 lakhs and there is not a single institution to give tehnical education for a population of 25 lakhs in our district.
