Jab They Met: Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia

New Delhi: Not all love stories have a happy ending; some just leave a mark on the path of love.Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia was a couple who set an example for everybody who is in love and showed the world that despite all the hardships a relationship faces love survives till one's last breath.Dimple's career in Bollywood took off a flying start when she was only 13 and was signed by actor director Raj Kapoor for his upcoming movie Bobby. But some unexpected turns came her way. Three years later and only eight months prior to the film hitting the floors, Dimple decided to settle down with the love of her life. The movie got the cash registers ringing and became a blockbuster hit. Dimple became a superstar and yet she gave up her acting career for a perfect family life.The man of her dreams was Rajesh Khanna who had touched the pinnacle of his acting career in Bollywood. He had set a benchmark for romantic roles and was popularly known as the `Romance King'. Dimple was not Rajesh's first love interest. He had dated fashion designer and actress Anju Mahendru for seven years but the relation didn't last. The year 1973 saw the beautiful alliance of the superstar Rajesh Khanna and the superstar in making Dimple Kapadia. A year later, their first daughter Twinkle was born. Their second daughter Rinkie came to life in the year 1977.Rajesh Khanna had seen an undisputed era of stardom and would never settle down for anything less than perfect. But his certain success was gradually coming to a halt with a rise of another shinning star, Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh's popularity as angry young man was growing day-by-day. This led to some serious strain on Rajesh Khanna's acting career and hence leading to a stressful family life. Long working hours became obligatory for Khanna which resulted in less time spent with family. Dimple decided to make a come back in Bollywood and Khanna continued to spend more time on work than family. The strained relationship made the couple move out and live separately. But a divorce was never filed. Meanwhile, Dimple made a come back in Bollywood and Rajesh gave up his acting career and took joined politics.As they say time is the best healer, the couple outgrew the grudges and started attending parties together. Dimple was also seen rigorously participating in election campaigns of Rajesh. The couple was together once again but this time death tore them apart. Rajesh breathed his last in 2012 and Dimple was his closest companion in his last days. She was seen making arrangements at his funeral with her daughters and son-in-law Akshay Kumar.
