1. When Manmohan Singh was teaching in college in Amritsar, he was invited by his neighbour who was also a famous English writer, Mulk Raj Anand to meet the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It was an opportunity for Singh to enter politics, but sticking to his commitment of teaching at his college, Singh refused to accept the offer.
