Kandela (Jind):  Heaping praise on Khap Panchayats, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said these groups have always been a significant contributor to resolving social issues and are part of "our traditions".

Even today Khaps are playing an important role in redressing public grievances as well as strengthening the feeling of brotherhood, Khattar said at a felicitation function organised by Sarvjatiya Kandela Khap and Kandela Gram Panchayat in Jind district.

"However, time and again many misconceptions are spread about Khaps that they are unconstitutional bodies, but I have always been saying that Khaps act as custodian of our social customs," he said.

He thanked the Khap panchayats for their role in implementation of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' programme.

Last month, Akhil Bharatiya Jaat Mahasabha (ABJM) and Khap panchayats had vowed to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" campaign and said they would work at village level to give a boost to the scheme.

After laying the foundation of a big hall of 'Historical Chabutra' of Kandela Khap, Khattar urged the villagers to maintain honour and dignity of Khap Panchayats as per social traditions.

Later, Khap leaders and villagers submitted a charter of demands to the Chief Minister. Khattar said he was very well versed with the problems of the area and promised to address the issues.

Meanwhile, Khattar said Haryana Government has decided to prepare a new education policy under which mapping of all educational institutes including schools, colleges and industrial training institutes would be conducted so as to identify the areas where such institutions are required to be set up in the state.

Addressing a public meeting at Safidon in district Jind today, he said a medical college would soon be set up in Jind, which would help address the shortage of doctors. Besides, nursing courses would be started in Civil Hospital, Jind to meet the requirement of para-medical staff.

The Chief Minister also announced developmental projects worth about Rs 40 crore for Safidon Assembly constituency and adjoining areas.

These included upgradation of Safidon Community Health Centre to a 50-bed hospital, Rs 28 crore for construction and repair of more than a dozen roads, Rs 5 crore for construction of a pucca drain at Safidon and Rs 6 crore for drinking water facilities.

Khattar said with the  view to provide time-bound and hassle-free services to people, the state government would soon link 164 services like issuance of birth, caste and age certificates with e-service.

The Chief Minister said that a new industrial policy would soon be framed in the state under which loan up to Rs 1 crore would be provided with guarantee so as to promote medium, small and micro enterprises at every block, district and village level.

He said 5,000 police personnel would soon be recruited on merit basis and women police stations would be open in every district on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. For this, 500 women constables would also be recruited, he said.
