Bangalore, Mar 17 :  Stepping up preparations for the Karnataka assembly polls due in two months, the Congress said Sunday that it has finalized the list of probable nominees for all the 224 seats.

“The list has three to five names for each of the 224 seats,” the party said in a statement at the end of two-day meeting of state unit leaders here to finalize the probables from over 2,000 ticker seekers.

“Emphasis is on representations to all sections of the society, particularly on youth keeping in focus Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's views,” the statement said.

The probables list will now go to the party's central selection committee headed by former Goa chief minister Luizinho Faleiro, it said.

The party has decided not to nominate anyone with criminal background, the statement said.

The meeting, held at a resort on Bangalore outskirts, was attended by all four central ministers from Karnataka - Mallikarjun Kharge, M. Veerappa Moily, K. Rahman Khan and K. H. Muniyappa, state party president G. Paramehswara, party general secretary in charge of state Madhusudan Mistry and over 50 others who are members of the committee.

The state assembly has 225 members - 224 elected and one nominated. The term of the assembly elected in May 2008 end June 3.
