Know Akbaruddin Owaisi , his controversial speeches and his party MIM

New Delhi, Jan 8: Akbaruddin Owaisi is not new to controversies. He comes from a political family that has always taken extreme political positions on purely communal lines. Akbaruddin is an MLA of Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and is the floor leader of 7-member All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) party. He is the brother of firebrand MP and MIM president Asauddin Owaisi and son of ex-MP Salahuddin Owaisi. Akbaruddin has got the habit of catching media glare for all the wrong reasons. In December 2012, he made a number of inflammatory speeches aimed against Hindu community at different places of Andhra Pradesh. Cases have been lodged against his hate speeches in Adilabad, Nizamabad and Hyderabad courts for attempting to wage war against Government of India, promoting enmity between groups and insulting religious feelings or beliefs. Akbaruddin's father Salahuddin OwaisiAkbaruddin went to London for his medical checkup after delivering all these hate speeches and has returned to India on January 7. He is trying to delay his appearance before police and even the state government does not seem to be in a hurry to arrest him as the govt doesn't want him to be seen as a martyr among his supporters. Let's have a look at some of his hate speeches, his personal and political background and his political party MIM: Controversial speeches of Akbaruddin Owaisi:1. December 24, 2012: Speaking in ‘Nirmal' town of Adilabad district, Akbaruddin said, “the population of your Hindustan is 1 billion, while we Muslims are 250 million. Muslims of India would need only 15 minutes without the police to show the Hindus of India who is more powerful - the Hindustan of 1 billion or the 250 million Muslims." Comparing Ajmal Kasab with Narendra Modi, Akbaruddin said,” the Pakistani child was hanged just because he was a Pakistani but Modi is not being hanged because he is an Indian.” In this speech, Akbaruddin made derogatory remarks against Hindu god Ram and his mother Kaushalya. After his acerbic sppech at Nirmal, Akbaruddin left for London reportedly for the treatment of his intestinal injuries that he suffered when he was attacked by four persons associated with property dealer Mohammed Phelwan over a land dispute in 2011. 2. December 12, 2012: Speaking at a public rally in Nizamabad, Akbaruddin made derogatory remarks against Hindu goddess Bhagyalakshmi .Akbaruddin said, “who is Bhagyalakshmi, never heard of her. Shout slogans such that the Bhagya also shakes and Lakshmi also falls down." The crowd responded by shouting slogans of Allahu Akbar. 3. December 8, 2012: Making fun of Hindu festivals, Akbaruddin said,” we (Muslims) have only two festivals, they have so many - one every 10 days." In this meeting, he repeatedly termed Bhagyalakshmi temple in Hyderabad as an illegal temple. 4. November 2012: Speaking in Hyderabad, Akbaruddin termed Andhra Pradesh Police as an “army of impotent people”. He tried to incite the audience by challenging the Andhra CM to withdraw the Police and then see who is more powerful. 5. September 2012: Defending the presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in India, Akbaruddin said,” I will not tolerate if the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in India are sent back to Bangladesh.” 6. August 2012: Akbaruddin again tried to provoke the audience in Karimnagar by saying that 50,000 riots took place in India over 65 years of independence and majority of those who were killed in these riots were Muslims. 7. April 2012: Akbaruddin once again made objectionable remarks against Hindu god Ram and his mother Kaushalya. He went on to say,” Where all did Ram's mother go wandering and where did she give birth to him" 8.Kurnool rally 2011: “If ex-PM P V Narasimha Rao had not died, I would have killed him with my own hands,” remarked Akbaruddin in this rally. In this rally, he used expletives like katil ,darinda , beimaan , dhokebaaz , and chor for Narasimha Rao. Akbaruddin attacked over a land dispute9. August 2007: Akbaruddin made death threats against Taslima Nasreen and said “we in Hyderabad want to behead this woman according to the fatwa.” He went on to say that fatwas against both Taslima Nasreen and Salman Rushdie have to be carried out Personal life & political journey: Born in Hyderabad on 14 June 1970, Akbaruddin left the study of medicine midway to enter politics in 1995. He married to a Christian woman against his father's wish. His wife converted to Islam and adopted a new name - Sabina Farzana. The father and son later reconciled in 1998. Akbaruddin also looks after the management of Owaisi Hospital that his father had founded for the welfare of Muslims. He entered Andhra Pradesh assembly in 1999 as the deputy to his elder brother Asauddin Owaisi who was leading the MIM in the house. In 2004, Akbaruddin's father Salahuddin decided to step down in favour of his elder son Asauddin Owaisi. From 1984 to 2004, Salahuddin had represented Hyderabad in Lok Sabha. After Asauddin moved over to Lok Sabha, Akbrauddin was made the leader of MIM in Andhra Pradesh assembly. History of MIM : All-India Maslis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) was active in Indian politics even before India attained independence. MIM advocated the setting up of a Muslim dominion rather than integration with India before Independence. MIM was directly linked to the “Razakars” in 1940s. It was a Muislim paramilitary organization that was set up to oppose the merger of ‘Hyderabad' state with India. The strategy of ‘Razakars' was to first demand and fight for an independent Hyderabad that will be eventually merged with Pakistan. After the failure of their nefarious designs, Hyderabad was merged with India and MIM was banned in 1948. The ban on MIM continued till 1957. The then MIM president and Razakar leader Qasim Rizvi was jailed from 1948 to 1957, and was left on the condition that he would go to Pakistan, where he was granted asylum. The Owaisis era started in 1976, when Salahuddin Owaisi's father Abdul Wahed Owaisi became president of MIM. Abdul Wahed Owaisi was also acerbic in his attacks against the majority community. He used to incite Muslims by saying that Muslims should stand on their own feet, rather than look to the state for help.
