Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited the Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, in the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river in Uttarakhand.

PM Modi reached the shrine minutes before the gates were opened at around 8.50 am, after the six month-long winter break.

The Prime Minister took part in the rituals inside the sanctum sanctorum and offered prayers here.

He was then presented with a miniature replica of the shrine. Kedarnath is one of the four Himalayan shrines on the Char Dham circuit.

Earlier, he was welcomed by Uttarakhand Governor Krishna Kant Paul and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on his arrival here.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) I will be visiting Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand. I will begin my visit by praying at the Kedarnath Temple,” he had tweeted yesterday.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Patanjali Research Institute in Haridwar.
