Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday night strongly condemned the dastardly terror attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir and asserted that India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks and evil designs of hate. In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said he spoke to Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and assured all possible assistance required.

At least seven pilgrims were killed and a number of others injured in the terror attack in Anantnag district of south Kashmir tonight. The government has however indicated that the Amarnath Yatra will continue as planned.

"Pained beyond words on the dastardly attack on peaceful Amarnath Yatris in J&K. The attack deserves strongest condemnation from everyone," Modi said in a tweet.

"My thoughts are with all those who lost their loved ones in the attack in J&K. My prayers with the injured," he added.

In another tweet, Modi said, "India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks & the evil designs of hate."

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke to Governor and the Chief Minister who apprised him of the ground situation.

"Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Governor & CM of Jammu & Kashmir regarding the attack on Amarnath Yatris. They have apprised him of the ground situation. HM has asked the authorities to ensure immediate and proper  treatment of the injured yatris. The MHA is closely monitoring the situation," his office said.

Condemning the attack, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said the incident "should add to our determination to eliminate terrorism."

"Terrorist attack on Amarnath Yatra is the most reprehensible act. My condolences to the bereaved families. This incident should add to our determination to eliminate terrorism," Jaitley said in a series of tweets.

Among those who condenmed the attack was former J&K CM Omar Abdullah who said that it "cannot be condemned strongly enough."

"The one thing we had all feared this year during the yatra. In spite of recent successes against militants & unprecedented force presence. Very sad news. The attack cannot be condemned strongly enough. My sympathies to the families & prayers for the injured," Abdullah said in on Twitter.

"Every right thinking Kashmiri must today condemn the killing of the Amarnath yatris and say, unequivocally - this is #NotInMyName," he added.
