US on friday condemned a spate of terror attacks in Pakistan and said it is committed to help Pakistan to root out terrorist and extremist elements within its territory, which is going to be a "long fight".

"We've made very clear that we're going to support the government of Pakistan in its efforts to fight terrorism," State Department Deputy Spokesman Robert Wood told reporters.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton told reporters On Board Air Force One travelling with President Barack Obama to New Orleans, Louisiana: "This shows once again that the militants in Pakistan threaten both Pakistan and the United States."

"The President has been impressed by some of the courageous actions that the Pakistani military has taken to root out some of these extremist elements," Burton said.

Noting these militant extremists have posed a threat for a while, Burton said everything that's happening in the region is a part of the ongoing assessment by Obama on finding a right strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Wood extend America's sympathy to the victims of today's five terrorist attacks and the families and friends of those who lost their lives in these attacks. PTI
