United Nations: The UN flag will be lowered at half staff Tuesday at UN headquarters in New York in a show of respect for deceased former Zambian president Michael Chilufya Sata, the deputy UN spokesman, Farhan Haq, said here Monday.

Sata's funeral will take place Tuesday, Xinhua quoted Haq as saying at a daily news briefing here.

Sata, who was born in northern Zambia July 6, 1937, was a politician who served as the fifth president of Zambia from Sep 23, 2011 until his death Oct 28.

Under relevant UN regulations, the blue UN flag is flown at half-mast to mourn the death of a head of state or head of government of a member state.
