Brzeg (Poland), Nov 26: Over two hundred people from across Poland took part in a special swim in the freezing water of the village of Stare Jablonki on Sunday.

The youngest swimmer was six years old and the oldest over 80.

Many of the participants wore fancy dress with a vampire, the cartoon character Pink Panther and others among the swimmers.

The ice-cold bath in Jablonki in the south-east of the country, is the biggest event of this type in Poland.

Every swimmer has got their own reasons for taking part.

Some do it for health, some treat it as a part of rehabilitation.

Everybody stressed though that the most important part of swimming in cold water is a proper warm up.

Many complained that the water temperature of four Celsius deg was too high however.

They were waiting for the real winter and temperatures minus 10 deg Celsius and lower.
