Washington: A former member of the US's elite Navy SEALs who killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will reveal his identity in a documentary to be shown next month on the Fox News channel, the company has announced.

In a statement Wednesday, Fox News said the two-hour documentary, titled "The Man Who Killed Osama bin Laden" would be broadcast in two parts Nov 11 and 12 and includes an interview with the ex-commando.

He was part of the Navy SEAL's special team which executed the raid to kill the terrorist mastermind in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in May 2011.

Fox said that the documentary would explain details of the operation, the last minutes of Osama bin Laden and the commando's role in the raid.

Navy SEAL operations do not usually come to light and there is a wall of secrecy around the identity of the unit's members, both in active service and those who have retired.

In 2012, Fox News disclosed the identity of former SEAL Matt Bissonette who was the author of the book "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden", written under a pseudonym.

The SEAL team shot dead Bin Laden after a decade-long search for the man who ordered the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington Sep 11, 2001.
