New Delhi: Shahid Khan is a Pakistani-born business tycoon currently living in USA. He is the richest man of Pakistan with net worth of about $2.5 billion. He was featured in Forbes and was ranked 491st in Forbes list of world's wealthiest people.He is a self-made billionaire as he belonged to a middle-class Lahori family. He went to USA at the age of 16 to study at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.The soles of his shoes were torn by the time Shahid Khan made it to the YMCA where he spent his first night here. The Y wanted $2 a night, which Khan, then only 16 years old, could afford until the dorms at the University of Illinois opened.Just a day after reaching here he began his first American job of washing dishes for $1.20 an hour.Khan learned about convertibles and the stock market there. He learned about sports that weren't like the ones he saw growing up in Lahore, Pakistan. They had rugby and cricket. Here he had to learn football and basketball.Khan graduated from the UIUC School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering with a BSc in Industrial Engineering in 1971.Khan worked at the automotive manufacturing company Flex-N-Gate while attending the University of Illinois. When he graduated he was hired as the engineering director for the company.After a few year of work and experience, he founded Bumper Works and bought Flex-n-Gate which turned him into a billionaire.Khan always worked around the obstacles presented him. He saw opportunities where there were problems.Today he is well known for giving large gifts to the University of Illinois and his passion for football, both college and pro.Khan's first venture into sports ownership was thwarted by Stan Kroenke, now a major shareholder at Arsenal, who stepped in when Khan planned to buy the St Louis Rams.However, Khan's hopes of owning a NFL team were soon realised when in 2011 he bought the Jacksonville Jaguars at a cost of around $760 million [£503 million] and, in doing so, became the first non-American to own a NFL side.Khan is happily married and the couple has two children.
