New Delhi: A woman bus conductor was on Wednesday allegedly beaten up and stripped by a 30-year-old passenger in Dombivli town following a heated altercation over boarding the bus from the front exit.

The 30-year-old Abhishek Singh, a resident of Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, allegedly began abusing both of them after entering the bus.

The incident took place on a bus which runs between Kalyan and Panvel in the Thane district, at around 8:30 am while the 34-year-old conductor was on her first trip.

Initially, none of the other passengers helped the conductor. They allegedly just stood and watched while the accused beat up and tore the woman's clothes.

The drama lasted nearly half an hour but, according to the victim, the commuters watched silently as she and the bus driver Vinayak Nayakwade (59) were being roughed up.

Later, a group of students who were onboard the bus, intervened and stopped the accused.

He was arrested and charged under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC, police said.
