Violent Protests in Delhi Over Power Outages

New Delhi: Violent protests broke out today in several areas in the national capital against power cuts which continued to make life difficult for people in the sweltering heat on a day the city recorded

Further, they have been directed to increase the number of their mobile teams to constantly monitor the status of their distribution transformers all over the city, so that local faults can be addressed in real-time.

Officials said BSES, which supplies power in around 70 per cent areas, is upgrading its complaint centres and has already inducted about 60 additional staff.

"If load-shedding was inevitable due to transmission or distribution constraints, then the discoms have been told to restrict it to one hour at best on rotational basis," the officials said.

The discoms have also been directed to immediately replace all their vulnerable or faulty lines.

Giving details of repair of the damaged transmission lines, the officials said the Shalimar Bagh - Wazirpur 220 KV line will be ready by June 16.

They said though the Bawana - Rohini 220 KV line has been restored through Emergency Restoration System (ERS) it will take some more time to repair the damaged towers.
