Jammu, Jun 23: Vaishnodevi pilgrimage was resumed today after it was suspended due to a wildfire which broke out in forests along the road to the cave shrine in Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The yatra has been resumed this morning after it was suspended due to the forest fire last night. It is going on smoothly,” Shri Mata Vaishnovdevi Shrine Board Additional Chief Executive Officer Mandeep Bhandari said.

Over 20,000 people were stranded when the forest fire broke out in Hathi-Matha, Him Koti and Ardh Kuwari belt yesterday.

The blaze was brought under control by officials of the shrine board and forest department with the help of locals.

There was no damage to property or injury to any pilgrim.  On an average 40,000 pilgrims visit the shrine, dedicated to Goddess Durga, everyday.
