Lucknow, June 19: The Uttar Pradesh government Wednesday announced a Rs.25 crore ($4.2 million) financial aid to the rain ravaged Uttarakhand.



Expressing his condolences on the large scale loss of life and property in the cloud burst and incessant rains, which washed away hundreds and damaged more than 500 roads and uprooted bridges, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said he was extremely distressed at the natural calamity.

Offering all possible help to Uttarakhand, Yadav exhorted individuals and other people to come forward and help in the relief work.

"I urge people to show compassion in these testing times for the people of Uttarakhand and extend financial help and do everything possible to bring relief to the people of Uttarakhand."

More than 100 people have been confirmed dead after the torrential downpour in Uttarakhand over the last one week. More than 75,000 people are trapped at various points en route to the Chardham Yatra.

Many shops, hotels, buildings, bridges have been washed away by the Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers, which are in spate.
