Ahmedabad: Around 1,000 packets of “spurious” ghee bearing the brand name ‘NaMo' were seized from a grocery shop at Ghodasar area in the city, officials said here today.
“We have seized around 1,000 packets of spurious ghee, which were being sold as pure ghee with the image of a cow and with the brand name NaMo, from a grocery shop in Nirmal Society in Ghodasar area in the city,” a statement from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), said.
A flying squad of the civic body raided the shop and found spurious ghee packets of various sizes, it said.
AMC's health department in-charge Bhavin Solanki said that the trader misled people by putting a cow's picture along with the brand name ‘NaMo'.
“Spurious ghee packets were being sold with the image of a cow and the brand name NaMo.
People often do not read the message on the box of any product. They generally see pictures and name of the product and buy it,” Solanki said.
However, there was a message on the box that it is not edible though there was no such warning on cartons of those ghee packets, he said.
Solanki said that the seized ghee samples have been sent for testing and further proceedings would be initiated after getting laboratory reports.
