New Delhi: The Supreme Court today asked state-owned power generator NTPC and private discom BSES to sort out their disputes over payments to ensure that people of the national capital do not suffer power cuts due to it.

A bench headed by Justice S S Nijjar asked the companies to sit together and find out a solution to the problem arising out of non-payment of dues. It posted the case for hearing on May 6.

NTPC told the court that BSES, the power distributor in the national capital, has not paid its dues. But the Reliance Group-led company refuted the allegation saying it had complied with the court order for paying Rs 601 crore.

The court then asked both the companies and the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, to resolve the matter and arrive at a consensus both in terms of the money payable and what has been paid.

NTPC had earlier threatened to cut supplies to BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani due to non-payment of dues but the apex court had directed it not to do so.
