Kolkata: The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), conducted its Diploma Examination in Child Health (DCH) for the first time outside Britain this year following a collaboration with the AMRI Hospitals here.

The two-day examination was held Nov 4 and 5 at the city-based hospital's Mukundapur facility in the southern outskirts of Kolkata. Thirty two Indian doctors from across the country participated.

Hospital CEO Rupak Barua said the examination provided a platform to evaluate the infrastructure that India has to offer for conducting such top grade tests.

"Until now this diploma was only available for doctors who could travel to UK and take the clinical examination there. Our association with RCPCH has enabled many aspiring doctors to appear for the examination in India itself without the need to travel outside.

"This examination sets the benchmark for International Paediatric Education amongst doctors. Our hope and endeavour would be to hold this examination regularly in India which would help Indian practitioners to gain worldwide recognition in paediatric care," Barua said.

"We are pleased with the turnout of examinees," said Anna Mathew, chairman, DCH of RCPCH.

Senior Examiners from Britain and India, appointed by the RCPCH, will evaluate the performance of the examinees.
