Jammu: The Pakistan Army on Monday violated the ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked shelling and firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu.

"The Pakistan Army used 120 mm and 82 mm mortar and heavy machine gun to violate the ceasefire on LoC in Saujiyan and Mandi sectors in Poonch district," a defence spokesperson Col Manish Mehta said.

"Pakistan firing started at 8 pm on Sunday and continued till 1 a.m. Intermittent firing is still on," the defence official said.

"Our troops are effectively and beffitingly responding to Pakistan shelling and firing. No casualty of our troops has been reported," he added.

On Sunday, two civilians were killed and at least a dozen others injured in shelling by the Pakistan army in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu region, taking the civilian toll in the last two days to seven.

In afternoon, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit to lodge a protest and convey anger over unprovoked firing with high calibre weapons by Pakistani troops targeting India's civilian population.
