Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant approval to the proposed IT Investment Region (ITIR) in the state capital Bhubaneswar.
"I would urge upon your kind intervention for early approval of ITIR proposal of Odisha to start the long pending project. I am sure that operationalisation of this project will contribute significantly to the Make in India and Digital India initiatives launched by the Union government," Patnaik said in a letter to Modi.
He pointed out that a detailed project report (DPR) submitted by the state government had been cleared by the high power committee under the cabinet secretary. And yet, the matter is still pending with the Centre.
The Odisha government had submitted the DPR to the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) of the government of India on April 13, 2010.
Patnaik said all necessary clarifications regarding the project had been provided to the DeitY.
The ITIR project will come up in an area of 10,210 acres with a processing area of 4,300 acres to house IT/ITES/Electronics Hardware Manufacturing (EHM) and R&D centres.
The proposed project would generate over two lakh job opportunities in the IT, ITES and ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing) sectors, said Patnaik.
