Government blames IndiGo for not following new FDTL rules
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said on Sunday that IndiGo failed to properly implement the new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules, leading to widespread flight disruptions. He said all airlines were instructed to follow the revised norms after the Delhi High Court’s order, with implementation set in two phases July 1 and November 1, 2025.
"Ever since the Delhi High Court issued its decision regarding the reforms to FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitations) rules, our ministry and the DGCA notified all airlines across the country that they must comply with these rules and operate strictly in accordance with them. The implementation was divided into two phases- from 1st July 2025 and from 1st November 2025. All airlines companies worked on this but IndiGo did not take it as seriously as it should have. Through DGCA, we took immediate action. We appointed a 4-member investigation committee, a 24/7 control room was set up, we kept FDTL regulations in abeyance until February 2026. DGCA has issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO. We have also told IndiGo to refund the money of passengers without any cancellation and their luggage be returned within 48 hours. Action will certainly be taken after the investigation committee's report comes," he said.
