India's first double-decker flyover opens in Mumbai

Mumbai: India's first double-decker flyover was opened for public use in this west coast megapolis and the country's commercial capital Friday. The project - Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) - will provide a critical east-west suburban link

Significant time was also lost in securing permission by the Indian Railways to construct the double-decker part of the flyover, the officials pointed out.

Besides the SCLR, Mumbaikars have been given a whole lot of mega infrastructure goodies in the past few weeks, including the swank, world-class four-decker Terminal II at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, the Eastern Freeway Project with two long tunnels - the first ever in an urban set-up in the country.

There is also the new Sahar Elevated Access Road, including a flyover and subway outside Mumbai Airport, the sea-plane services, India's tallest ATC tower, besides several other smaller projects in and around the country's commercial capital.
