Hyderabad: An engineering graduate from Hyderbad who had joined Islamic State has died in the fighting in Syria, according to reports.

25-years-old Haneef Waseem, who had gone to London for master's degree in engineering in November 2015, had fled to Syria. According to reports he died on March 15.

The young engineer was from Mancherial town in Adilabad district and got his degree from Shadan College of Engineering. He had visited home for the last time in February to attend his sister's wedding.

Several young Indians have joined Islamic State to fight in Iraq and Syria since its influence grew last year. Two young students from Mumbai fled to Iraq to join Islamic State last but one of them, Areeb Majeed, returned later who is in National Investigation Agency custody.

In December last year, an electrical engineer from Kolkata, living in Bengaluru, Mehdi Masroor Biswas was arrested for allegedly operating the most influential Twitter handle for Islamic State - @shamiwitness.
