Panaji: Goa Governor Mridula Sinha renewed her wedding vows with husband Dr Ram Kripal Sinha in a couple blessing ceremony here almost 56 years after their marriage.

“Governor Mridula Sinha exchanged garlands with her husband at a couple-blessing ceremony organised by Shri Parvadeshwar Maharaj and Sadguru Bhau Maharaj at Campal grounds here,” tweeted BJP legislator and one of the organizers Vishnu Surya Wagh.

Wagh also posted pictures of the Governor exchanging garlands with Dr Sinha and also touching his feet during the ceremony last evening which was attended by thousands of people.

In the picture, the 72-year-old Governor is wearing her regular cotton saree while her husband is donning a white kurta-pyjama with black waistcoat.  Shri Parvadeshwar Maharaj is a local spiritual leader who is known for his anti-liquor campaigns and preaching family values.

The event held at Campal was also attended by Union minister Sripad Naik along with his wife.

The Governor got married to Sinha, who later became Union Minister of State for Labour and Parliamentary Affairs in Morarji Desai cabinet.

Addressing the crowd, the Governor stressed need to open more pre-marriage counseling centres to keep families intact.

She said in present days, there is deterioration of family values and hence the need to go back to family.
