Patna, June 2: The funeral procession of slain Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeswar Singh alias Mukhiya from Ara to here turned violent with the participants burning police outposts and private vehicles, damaging police and private vehicles and blocking busy Bailey Road for several hours.



The procession shouting anti-government slogans covered a distance of 40 km from Ara to here and was participated by hundreds of followers and supporters.

Sena supporters, who turned up in a large number of vehicles including motorcycles, stopped at Bihta, Danapur and Saguna More here and blocked the busy Bailey Road for several hours throwing the vehicular traffic out of gear.

They also blocked roads today at Bhagalpur and at several places between Ara and Patna.

In Bhojpur district, where Singh was gunned down yesterday an uneasy calm prevailed with heavy security blanket spread to tackle any eventuality, official sources said adding police patrolling was intensified in Ara town.

The state was put on a high-alert since the killing and Director General of Police Abhayanand and senior police officials met here this morning and reviewed the situation.

Bihar BJP president C P Thakur and a few BJP MLAs went to Bihta to pay floral tributes to Singh and participated in the funeral procession at some places along the route.

A few persons in the procession misbehaved with Thakur and pulled him out of his vehicle at Bihta, official sources said.

They also threw stones on his car and Bikram MLA Anil Kumar was reported to have been injured in the stone-throwing. A police vehicle was also damaged in the stone-pelting.

They later burnt down a police outpost near IPS Mess here and vandalised several private vehicles here.

Ranvir Sena Chief was gunned down by unidentified gunmen at a place at Nawada in Bhojpur district when he was on morning stroll yesterday.

The DGP had set up an inquiry headed by a DIG rank officer to probe the case and submit report within a month.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, his LJP counterpart Ramvilas Paswan and state Congress leaders have demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder. 

Violence continued even when the funeral procession with the body of the Sena chief reached Bansghat crematorium here on the banks of Ganga here.

The Sena men clashed with the police and set fire to the vehicle of a deputy superintendent of police after overturning it, official sources said adding they also burnt a bus of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC).

More than 22 vehicles were damaged by the participants of the procession who took law into their hands from the beginning and took everything to ransom.

They also heckled suspended JD(U) MP Lalan Singh and former MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh, the sources added.
