New Delhi: On the last day of the governor's conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday said that “expanding footprint of terror groups in neighboring Pakistan and their link with terror activities is a major security challenge”.
On Thursday, while the PM was addressing the forum, he also touched other grave areas like ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), violence perpetrated by Maoists and recent initiatives taken on the economic front.
While talking about the security scenario, especially in states sharing international borders, Modi said, "The expanding footprint of extremist and terrorist organizations in Pakistan, and their link with terror activities in India is a major security challenge." The information was as reported in Times of India daily.
He told that although the ceasefire violations and infiltration was increasing however, the government has adopted a multi-pronged approach to counter these.
He urged those states which are facing the problem of left-wing extremism to adopt a coordinated approach.
Stressing on the need to end the infrastructural deficit in North-East, PM applauded the region for its immense potential and also assured that the requisite efforts will be made by the government to augment its capacity and develop the region.
He also spoke extensively on development of tribal communities; he stressed on the need of stable employment options for tribals alongwith improvement of their lifestyle, their overall development and education.
He highlighted the recent governance initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG subsidy, Digital India Mission, Make in India Mission, initiatives for skill development and elimination of outdated laws. He said governors are chancellors of universities and, in that capacity; they should inspire youth and their families to work towards Swachh Bharat.
He talked about other social issues like drug abuse, declining sex ratio and food adulteration also.
He urged the governors to contribute to the growth by ensuring implementation of important central schemes.
As a matter of fact, the conference saw participation of 21 governors and two lieutenant governors. It was chaired by President Pranab Mukherjee and attended among others by several cabinet ministers.
