In 1962 , It was chosen to manufacture indelible ink created by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), after which MPVL became an integral part of Indian democracy.
The ink was used for the first time in the Lok Sabha election in 1962 and has since been used in every Parliamentary election and almost every assembly and local election.
The company has been growing steadily for more than two decades now. It regularly exports ink to several democracies. Countries buy ink either through a global tender, or through their embassies in India, or with the help of United Nations agencies.
