New Delhi: Delhi Police today arrested the Archbishop of Delhi along with other bishops during a peacefully demonstration at Jantar Mantar here.

Archbishop Anil J. T. Couto along with other bishops, priests, nuns courted arrest at Jantar Mantar, demanding the repeal of the 1950 Presidential Order against Christian Dalits.

Christians have been demanding through various means, including taking recourse to law, to strike down the Presidential Order of 1950 which denies equal rights to Christians and Muslims of  Dalit origin.

“The law itself is unconstitutional and while the governments after government have been turning a deaf ear to the demand of Christians, now they are going to the extent of brutally beating up our priests and nuns and now arresting us too”, said Archbishop Couto.

The protesters alleged that police beat up priests, who were dressed in their official priestly attire and nuns, who were peacefully marching from Jantar Mantar towards the Ashok Road circle.
