New Delhi: The newly appointed Chief Justice of India TS Thakur has backed the 'odd-even traffic formula'' proposed by the Delhi government to curb the ever rising pollution in the national capital.
“We welcome even-odd car system initiated by Delhi government. I see no problem in the even-odd car number system.Judges have no problem with odd-even formula of the Delhi Government.” CJI told media today.
Welcoming Kejriwal's decision, Thakur said,”Judges can also do car pool. I would suggest SC judges to make a car pooling system, that will give a right message to public. We can do atleast this much. It is not a sacrifice but a small attempt to motivate people."
Reacting to CJI's support, Delhi CM tweeted, “CJI's support 2 odd even formula is welcome n huge encouragement. SC judges pooling cars wud inspire millions 2 follow. Thank u My Lords (sic)."
In a radical step to curb air pollution, the Delhi's AAP government has announced that private vehicles bearing odd and even registration numbers will be allowed to ply only on alternate days starting January 1.
Also, amid widespread apprehension over the odd and even number scheme for private vehicles, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal struck a conciliatory note and said it will be tried out for limited period of time and it will be stopped if there are problems galore.
Seeking to assuage concerns, Kejriwal said his government would not allow the people to be inconvenienced.
