New Delhi, Apr 25: The BJP on Monday asked why the CBI did not name Tamil Nadu chief minister Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal's name in the second chargesheet in 2G spectrum case, as she holds 60 per cent shares in Kalaignar TV.

Party spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman said, Karunanidhi's daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi owned only 20 pc shares in Kalaignar TV. The CBI has named Kanimozhi and other Kalignar executives, but the question remains is why Dayalu Ammal, who holds 60 pc shares, has not been named in the second chzargesheet, she asked.

Seetharaman said, BJP wonders whether this was due to political pressure or bargaining that Dayalu Ammal's name was left out. Has there been threat from DMK about withdrawing its ministers from the UPA govt, she asked.

In Chennai, Karunanidhi today evaded questions about DMK planning to quit the Union cabinet after his family members were named by CBI in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Speaking to reporters here, he said he was not aware of any of his family member being possibly named by CBI in the second charge sheet in the scam.

"I don't know," he said to a question on reports that his daughter Kanimozhi, MP and wife Dayalu could be named. The 87 year-old leader went on to add that the names will be revealed as the media would report it after the charge sheet was filed in a Delhi court.

Responding to reports about DMK's possible exit from the UPA cabinet in this connection, he shot back "Is that your desire?"

"Being a woman, you should not talk as if you are heartless," he said when women reporters persisted in asking him about 2G and his equations with the UPA.

Taking a dig at the media, he said they would report "the "slightest of dirt" on DMK, but said he would still continue to read the newspapers.

Former Telecom Minister A Raja had been arrested in connection with the alleged scam, and the CBI had questioned Dayalu and Kanimozhi in Chennai recently.

BJP today reacted angrily to the CBI's second charge sheet  saying it is the “first-ever” instance that a second charge sheet is submitted by the agency in a case.

“We strongly and angrily react to the charge sheet... it is a first-ever instance in the history of the agency that it submitted a second charge sheet in a case,” party's national spokesperson Syed Shahnawj Hussain told reporters in Patna.

Talking about the timing of the charge sheets filed in the case, Hussain said the agency filed its first charge sheet before the elections in Tamil Nadu after the name of “a member of an important political family” had figured in the case.

“Similarly, the CBI filed the second charge sheet after the elections were over and named new persons of the family in the case,” he said apparently referring to the controversy over alleged involvement of family members of a powerful political house in the 2G spectrum scam.  PTI
