New Delhi:  More skeletons are tumbling out of the closet in the call detail record case as another Delhi police constable was yesterday arrested along with two others for allegedly accessing the call records of an advocate.

Constable Lalit Kumar, posted under Assistant Commissioner of Police Kalkaji, a businessman identified as Akash Jain and a detective Chandrashekhar were arrested today by the Special Cell of the Delhi police.

The arrests were made in a fresh case, in which a complaint was filed by a lawyer Jitendra Garg in September, 2012 claiming that his call records were accessed by a private detective.

The Special Cell investigated the case and stumbled upon a businessman identified as Akash Jain who had hired a private detective to snoop on Garg.

Jain suspected his wife's fidelity and was under the impression that she was in a relationship with Garg.

“Jain approached a private detective Chandrashekhar to acquire the call data records of his wife. As he was having a pending divorce case against her, he thought that this would be substantial proof to get easy divorce from her,” a police official said.

Chandrashekhar then contacted constable Lalit Kumar who obtained the CDR of the lawyer.

On Thursday, a Head Constable, Rajkumar Singh, was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police while six persons were arrested on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday for allegedly illegally obtaining CDRs.

According to sources, more arrests are on the cards in the case with some senior police officials coming under the scanner.

The murky tale first began when Delhi Police constable Arvind Dabas and three private detectives, were arrested in February for allegedly trying to obtain BJP leader Arun Jaitley's CDR.

The matter came to light in January and led to a political furore with the Opposition accusing the government of tapping Jaitley's phone.

According to police, CDRs of 52 numbers, three of them belonging to Jaitley, were sought by the accused using the e-mail id of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), New Delhi district, on January 8.

The accused policemen used to procure the CDRs of influential persons and hand them over to private detectives in return for cash and other benefits.

Investigators also suspect that illegal tapping of phones was carried out by the gang using imported equipment.
