The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended after five people were killed in a landslide between Railpatri and Brarimarg on the Baltal route on Tuesday night. At least three other pilgrims were injured in the incident. "A landslide hit between Railpatri and Brarimarg on the Baltal route," a police official said.

Five people, including four men and a woman have been killed, while three others have been injured, a police official said,

The bodies have been brought to the Baltal base hospital. The identities of the injured and of the deceased are yet to be ascertained, he added.

So far, at least six other pilgrims have lost their lives during the yatra due to various reasons. The deaths due to Tuesday's landslide takes the toll of this year's yatra to 11.

The Amarnath Yatra, which commenced on July 28, has been running into trouble due to inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir. On July 29 and 30 the yatra remained suspended as the water-level in Jhelum river rose dangerously due to incessant rains. The journey to the holy cave shrine was however resumed on July 1 as the weather cleared.
