Bishop Franco Mulakkal on Tuesday moved the Kerala High Court and sought an anticipatory bail. Mulakkal has been named as an accused in a sexual abuse case by a nun in the state. The bishop would be appearing before the police team for probe on Wednesday.

The bail plea sought by the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Jalandhar would be heard by Justice V Raja Vijayaraghavan later on Tuesday.

In addition to the anticipatory bail, the bishop also asked the court to see that he is not arrested until the anticipatory bail plea is finally disposed.

Claiming that the complaint filed against him is false and concocted, Franco said that the complaint only meant to harass him.

A Kerala nun has accused Mulakkal of repeatedly sexually abusing her between 2014 and 2016.

After taking a detailed 114-page statement from the nun along with other inmates of the convent, an FIR against the bishop was registered.
