New York, Jun 28: Bert Stern, a commercial photographer best known for his images of Marilyn Monroe in what became known as "The Last Sitting," has died in New York City. He was 83.

His death on Wednesday at his Manhattan home was confirmed by filmmaker Shannah Laumeister. She says they were secretly married in 2009.

Stern shot thousands of images of Monroe at the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles in 1962 for Vogue magazine just weeks before her drug overdose death. The images were published in two books, in 1982 and 2000.

In a documentary Laumeister made on Stern, he said, "It was a one-time-in-a-lifetime experience to have Marilyn Monroe in a hotel room."

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Frank E. Campbell funeral chapel.
