New Delhi: She is yet to mark her debut in Bollywood with 'Byomkesh Bakshi' but actress Swastika Mukherjee is already getting publicity and that too for all wrong reasons. Shockingly the Bengali actress was caught shoplifting in top jewellery store in Singapore.

Yes, the actress who went to Singapore to attend Darpan film festival with her filmmaker- boyfriend Suman Mukherjee (also a National award winner) was caught in a CCTV footage dropping a pair of gold earrings into her bag at a jewellery store where she went for shopping after attending the film festival.

However, the actress clarifying her act defending herself by saying that she had no idea whatsoever about how that article went into her bag. “I don't know how it got into my bag. Perhaps it was by accident. But I have bought other jewellery from the store and I have got receipts for it”, the actress said in an interview to a leading daily.

But according to shop owners, the CCTV footages clearly shows actress tricking the earrings quite cleverly. According to a leading daily, earrings were worth over 225 $ and after checking the footages the owner of the boutique, Apsara Oswal wrote to the Darpan Film Festival authorities informing them about the same.

Arindam Sil, executive producer of Sujoy Ghosh's 'Kahaani' who was also part of the festival has seen the footage. According to Sil, “The boutique owner is my friend. She informed the festival organisers about the incident and sent us the evidence. The CCTV footage shows her purchasing an expensive neckpiece and then going back to the display shelves. She tried the earrings, took the pair in her left hand and shoved the empty box behind another box. No police complaint has been lodged against Swastika. She fled from her hotel on Monday morning along with her boyfriend.”

Swastika is ready to pay the price of the missing earrings since she doesn't want to get into any sort of controversy. She has informed Sreyashi Sen, the founder and chairperson of Darpan Film Festival about the same

If there is any truth to the incident then it's really shocking since it took place in the other country and would tarnish India's image too.

It's not the first instance with which Swastika has made headline. Swastika earlier has been in news for attempting suicide, domestic with her ex-husband (who is the son of a legendary singer in West Bengal). The actress is divorced from her husband and has a teenage daughter.
