New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra starrer, ‘Mary Kom' hit the theatres on Friday and the film opened with a jam-packed audience on the Teachers Day.

The film has got a huge appreciation from the critics and has done well on the box office.

Releasing after last week's slow performer Raja Natwarlal, this Friday's release featuring Priyanka Chopra was highly anticipated. In fact, the film has received good reviews by critics across the board and also by people who watched it at special screenings.

Reports suggest that Mary Kom has opened on a good note, accumulating a 60% occupancy rate on the Opening Day with collection of Rs 9cr worldwide.

Occupancy during morning shows registered 30%.  The film has been released over 3000 screens and was declared tax free in major circuits of Maharashtra, UP, Rajasthan and MP. Assam Government also declared the film tax-free.

A lot depends on the positive words of mouth. The number expected to record a bounce in the weekend. ‘Mary Kom' made a total collection of 7.5-8 crore on the opening day in India. In the north-east, the craze for the film is huge. Many theatres in Assam showed the house-full boards hang outside. The presence of Assamese actors like Kenny Basumatary and Rajni Basumatary, who play's Mary mother, has also been a crowd puller.

Priyanka Chopra well-promoted the film and she has higher expectation from 'Mary Kom'. She has put her heart and soul to portray the role of the Olympic winner of India.

Being a solo Bollywood release with relatively no competition from other Hollywood releases, coupled with the fact that the audience has been eagerly awaiting the film's release and that the movie is based on one of India's leading sports personalities, Mary Kom seems all set to dominate the box office this weekend.
