The film based on Lalit Modi's life titled The Commissioner, which seemed to have gotten a hard jolt after the recent Indian Premier League scandal, is now being revived.
It is reliably learnt that the producers Percept Ltd., who were earlier deterred by the unsavoury controversies Modi had gotten into, have now changed their mind about putting the project on the backburner.
Shamin Desai has been finalised to direct The Commissioner, right after Lalit Modi personally gave the nod to incorporate all the upheavals that overtook his life in the last one month.
Writer Sridhar Raghavan is currently working on the new changes in the screenplay for the film. Producer Shailendra Singh of Percept admits there have been radical developments in the project.
He says, “Lalit Modi has indeed given us the nod to include all the new developments in his life and career. We're going ahead full throttle with the project. Our writer Sridhar Raghavan is putting together this amazing saga. Lalit Modi's life was never an ordinary story. But now, it's much more compelling.
Hence the title The Commissioner, which has the word ‘mission' tucked in it. Lalit Modi was and is a man on a mission. There's no way his story won't be told.”
Buzz is that Irrfan Khan has been chosen to play Lalit Modi. But at the moment the focus is on including the recent lifechanging events in Lalit Modi's life into place for the biopic. Raghavan, who has written Rajkumar Santoshi's Khakee and Prakash Jha's Apaharan, has gone into hiding to rewrite the complicated story.
