New Delhi: Actor Govinda at a press conference today spoke about his low time when he did not get work in the film industry for five years. Yesterday, he was ordered by the Supreme Court to apologise to the fan he slapped in 2008 and Govinda held the conference to express his views about the incident.

Talking to the media personnel, Govinda said, “After I left politics, I had no work for 5 years. This created many troubles for my family too.”

Speaking about the entire incident, Govinda said he respected the order of the Supreme Court. On 16th January, 2008 Govinda had allegedly slapped a fan Santosh Rai on his film's sets.

Post the incident, Rai had lodged a complaint against the actor under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (1) (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Speaking for himself, Govinda said, “It's surprising that the person I don't know, who calls himself a poor guy has been fighting a case against me since all these years. It is obvious that he is being funded by someone.”

He also added, “We respect the emotions of our fans. But many times fans come illegally in areas which have legal boundaries.”

“I respect what the court has decided but I will definitely find out what the matter is? I have not harmed this person even a bit in the past 10 years. If I wanted I would have filed a defamation case against him, but I don't want to harm anybody,” he told the media.

“Since I have not received any formal notification about the decision, I cannot speak technically about it;” said the ‘Partner' star when he was asked how he felt about the order” he concluded.
