BOSS movie review: Entertains in parts

One thing is far off my imagination and really disappoints me in numerous masala entertainers is that why do the directors play with our emotions. Not that after watching BOSS I am complaining the makers for portraying opposite to what they bet on but I am fed up with the non-stability of the moments which could actually win the flick some points. The problem with such masala flicks is somewhat similar. The director picks up any particular relation be it sober or ruthless, he tries to emote you with certain intensity. Just when you feel the emotion and try to connect with characters, the untimely overdose of action and few jokes tarnish all the passion. This is what happens with BOSS here. Even if we ignore the clinches, the non-feasible events which are expected from these flicks, we can't get over the crisscross layer of emotions needed to somber the viewers. Here the highlight of the flick is the father-son bonding between Mithun and Akshay while Akki's enemity with Ronit (playing gruesome cop) takes second spotlight. Though, director Anthony D' Souza tries too hard to bring out that strong emotion out of them but he partially succeeds. It all starts off in Banaras with Bigg Boss (Danny), who runs a transport business under whose disguise he is a contract killer. He gets into a brawl with the other gang but who supports him in the battle is younger BOSS. BOSS is left by his idealistic father Satyakant Shastri (Mithun Chakraborty) because of his short tempered behavior. But Bigg Boss takes him under his wings as he joins his business and becomes an efficient Haryanvi gangster. The flick moves 15 years ahead. Satyakant's younger son Shiv (Shiv Pandit) comes to Delhi where he falls in love with Ankita (Aditi Rao Hyadari) but this invites trouble from her elder brother Ayushman Mathur (Ronit Roy), a cruel cop. So the BOSS (Akshay Kumar) has to return to rescue his brother and to help him get his true love.The director doesn't provide a new dimension to the storyline rather it carries the same old masala theme but he remains honest to the characterisation of the artists. Through a brilliant star cast including Akshay Kumar, Ronit Roy being the prominent player, director instills the screens with energy. Even that boy playing younger BOSS is worthwhile.However, in the mid where does Akki's Harayanvi dialect vanishes you never know. What remains intact is the attitude of Khiladi and Ronit Roy. And so here takes few intense action sequences between the two.Among them, the final hand to hand combat under the soaring temperatures is worth watching. The other action sequences are nicely choreographed while Editor Rameshwaram S Bhagat interweaves them tightly.What could have been more admired are the dialogues which aren't funny enough or serious. The script could have been more gripping and logic which takes a back seat could have carried more sense.Performances here are more worthy as said before. Akshay Kumar is again great in his act. His regional approach is worth watching as he carries the attitude of the Jatt efficiently.Shiv Pandit tries hard to match Akshay's steps but fails. Aditi Rao Hyadari doesn't get much space to flaunt her acting skills.Mithun Chakraborty is good. His emotional bonding with Akshay takes a note but sometimes goes overboard. Other actors namely Danny Denzongpa, Johnny Lever as Zorawar, Sanja Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, Parikshit Sahni are equally fair.But who steals the show is Ronit Roy. He takes his share of applause for delivering a ruthless cop. This is his second appearance as a cop after ‘Shootout at Wadala' and he sombers every onscreen artists along with viewers with his act.Ronit has that skill to leave an impact even in a weaker scene. He shines at last.The music is zealous. BOSS' tilte track is my favourite. Honey Singh rap being one of the reason. Har Kisi ko nahi Milta song is good.I'll go with two stars for BOSS. Just go for Ronit and Akshay's performance.
