Mumbai, Apr 24: Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor feels that the action genre was not new to him and in fact what his fellow stars are doing today he had done it much earlier.  Excited about the Friday release of action drama ‘Tezz', the 52-year-old actor says that he wanted to explore the genre anew before he grows older.

“In a way yes...I think it is very natural phenomenon as what you could do ten years back that you can't do today, you have to change with time and temperament and age and you try to do your best. And you try to do what suits you and what you are capable of and sometimes you try to stretch yourself...saying you can work hard more. There is a lot of action and running scenes that I have tried to do my best in ‘Tezz',” the actor said.

Kapoor, who will be seen in ‘Tezz', ‘Shootout at Wadala' and ‘Race 2', besides with the American TV series ‘24', which will be made here for the Indian audience, said that what stars are doing today in action genre he had done it some 25 years ago by acting in films like ‘Tezaab', ‘Rakhwala' to name a few.

“I am preparing myself for this genre. I have always done films of this genre like ‘Tezaab', ‘Rakhwala', ‘Kishan Kanhaiya', ‘Laadla', ‘Meri Jung'. These films had dramatic action sequences, which people (actors) are doing again with ‘Singham', ‘Wanted' etc. I have done this kind of films and they have been successful. For other actors all this kind of action is new thing but not for me. What I am trying is to do it differently,” he said.

“Like what I did with Vijiyan (action director) 20 years back they (actors) are doing it now in films like ‘Singham', ‘Bodyguard', and ‘Dabangg'. I have done this kind of action 20-25 years back where with one punch 25 people fly in air and are injured at a time….beating people (sic),” Kapoor said.

Kapoor feels that Hollywood superstar Jackie Chan has been the source of inspiration for this kind of dramatic action in India which was Indianised by the directors from south.

“Since quite sometime this kind of films were not being made and now people find them entertaining. This is like antakshari. They are using concepts of old films and people like it. Today, people enjoy fast, superstitious, artificial things they watch and like it,” he said.

Acknowledging that the actions films are doing well at box office, the actor said,” Today it is weekend business. A film earning Rs 30 crore on the weekend is termed as hit”.  Kapoor said he had done films like ‘Parinda', ‘1942 A Love Story' that even his grandchildren will be proud of.

His next release is Priyadarshan's action-thriller ‘Tezz' alongside Ajay Devgn, Zayed Khan, Kangana Ranuat and Sameera Reddy.

“I have done this film (‘Tezz') for Priyan as I am confident about his talent. For me to agree to do a film is never fast. I do take time to say yes. So when this film was offered to me, Priyan told me you won't be able to say no to this film and I promise I will not let you down. I said ok, fine, I will go with your instinct...He has kept his promise...has outdone himself,” the actor added.
