New Delhi: Industry data shows LG has become the world's third largest smartphone maker behind Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics in the $223 billion market. Although it has been a rocky ride for LG, the company has made significant gains in 2012 through its Optimus series. During this time the company focused on the pre-paid and BYO segment with its cheaper L-Series models like the Optimus L5, and tasted success with them.
