Chandigarh, Jul 21: Haryana Industry Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala today said violence at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant “appears” to be a “concerted” plan to disrupt industrial peace in the state.

“... we have got some indications. It appears it (Maruti Suzuki incident) was a designed and concerted plan to disrupt industrial peace,” Surjewala told PTI.

Asked whether there was any political hand behind the brutal incident which claimed life of a senior Maruti official, he said that “let's not prejudge things ... it is too early to say”.

State Labour and Employment Minister Shiv Charan Lal Sharma also said, “Yes, workers are influenced from outside.”

“They (workers) are completely wrong in getting into violence (at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant),” he said, adding they were getting good amount of wages for fixed eight hours' duty.
“They were getting all types of facilities at the factory,” he said.

However, Sharma said the workers have been raising a demand for wage revision with the management for the past 2-3 months.

Official sources in the Haryana Labour department said in their monthly meetings workers never pointed out that they were facing any problem at the Manesar facility.

The company had also stated that “it is an orchestrated act of mob violence at a time when operations had been normal over the past many months.”
