A suspected cattle smuggler was killed in an encounter with BSF personnel along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam's South Salmara district police said. The encounter took place at Kharuwabandha area early this morning when the smuggler, with a consignment of cattle,was making an attempt to enter India from Bangladesh, the police said.
Police received information that Raju Deshi (accused) would come near Akshardham Temple to deliver a consignment of arms on Tuesday evening, Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said. "Thereafter, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested," he said.
Faryad Ali, a bovine smuggler was detained under the Public Safety Act. A resident of Rangoora byepass, was wanted in four FIRs registered against him under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act between 2008 and 2019.
The accused, identified as Shahzad Ali (24), resident of Kunwar Singh Nagar, Gurmeet Singh (25), resident of Tilak Nagar in Delhi, and Yashpal (38), a resident of Muzaffar Nagar in UP, supplied arms and ammunitions using stolen vehicles.
