Mumbai Rains LIVE: Red alert has been issued in parts of Maharashtra like Ratnagiri and Raigarh, while Mumbai and Thane are under an orange alert, issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The orange-colour coded warning for heavy rains was issued for the coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, the IMD had said on Monday.
Light to moderate rainfall was reported from several parts of the city like in certain parts of South Mumbai Borivali, Thane, Dombivali, and Kurla. In last 24 hours, Neighbouring areas of Raigad, Pune, Satara, and Sindudurg also witnessed light showers
Mumbai on Wednesday experienced heavy overnight rains along with thunderstorms and lightning, causing water-logging in some low-lying areas. The city recorded the decade's highest 24-hour October rainfall. Also, due to intermittent spells of heavy downpour, Mumbai recorded its second-highest monthly rainfall (144.8mm) in a decade.
Cyclone Nisarga Landfall: In awake Cyclone Nisarga, Section 144 has been imposed in Mumbai and adjacent areas from midnight to Thursday afternoon and banned people from coming to places like beaches, parks and promenades along the coastline. Also, the Mumbai international airport will operate only 19 flights on Wednesday while 31 have been cancelled as a precautionary measure in the wake of Cyclone Nisarga.
