Madrid: Atletico Madrid's Jorge "Koke" Resurrecion created both goals as the Spanish champions beat Real Sociedad 2-0 in the league on Tuesday.

Koke's corner kick aimed at Fernando Torres was headed into his own net by Sociedad's Mikel Gonzalez in the second minute.

Eight minutes later, Antoine Griezmann scored his 16th goal this season when he pounced on goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli's attempt to parry Koke's shot from the edge of the area.

Koke also attempted what looked initially like a long cross but as the ball dropped toward the top far corner, Rulli was forced to tip it over the crossbar in the 40th.

In the late matches, Sevilla won 2-1 at Levante and Eibar beat Malaga 1-0.

Sociedad's best chance was stopped by goalkeeper Jan Oblak who smothered Gonzalo Castro's shot after a fast-paced counterattack in the 20th.

Torres was applauded by fans at the Vicente Calderon stadium when he was substituted in the 61st minute by Mexico forward Raul Jimenez.

Sevilla's France forward Kevin Gameiro scored his sixth goal of the season in the 10th minute from a well-timed assist by former Arsenal winger Jose Antonio Reyes.

Levante had a chance when midfielder Nabil El Zhar struck a powerful volley in the 30th, but goalkeeper Sergio Rico made a good save.

Reyes doubled Sevilla's lead in the 37th after being skilfully picked out while running forward on the right flank by Gameiro's beautifully-weighted cross.

Nigeria forward Kalu Uche pulled one back for Levante, scoring his fourth goal of the season when his header bounced in off the near post in the 73rd.

In the other larte kickoff, Eibar left-winger Javier Lara floated over a corner kick that Mikel Arruabarrena headed past Malaga goalkeeper Idriss Kameni in the 53rd minute.

Atletico is third in the standings on 65 points behind league leader Barcelona on 71 and Real Madrid on 67 — with both sides playing on Wednesday. Sevilla is fifth on 61 points.
