Goa to host India's biggest club and school rugby tourney

Panaji: Goa Rugby, in association with Banquet Sports, will organise the 'Christmas Touch Rugby Championships 2014', an all Goa Inter School & All India Club Rugby Tournament on December 21 at the Campal Grounds here.

This is tipped to be one of India's biggest rugby events.

Goa Rugby & Banquet Sports will specially create an international style rugby village at the Campal grounds that will light up the city and will be a spectacle for Goans and tourists visiting the capital.

This is the first time in the history of Indian rugby that a rugby event is being organised on such a large scale in India with all world class amenities provided to all the teams participating in the tournament. There will be clubs from all over India that will include professional players from India and abroad.

In another first Goa Rugby kicked off its trophy tour wherein all schools will get a glimpse of the glittering trophy. The trophy will go through all the schools before finally coming at the venue.

Anish Quenim, President of the Goa Rugby body, said, "The idea behind having this event was to give Goa its first international event and take rugby to the next level, the love and support we've received from Goa is truly amazing, and together as one we shall achieve the dream of making an impact at the world stage.

"Teams from all over India and schools from all over Goa have already confirmed their participation and the tournament will also see some of the highest ranked rugby officials from all over the world," said Anish.
