YEONGAM, South Korea (AP) : India's Karun Chandhok has become the first man to drive a Formula One car at a new race track in South Korea.
The HRT Racing driver steered a Red Bull car around the circuit in the southwestern county of Yeongam on Saturday ahead of the Korean Grand Prix scheduled for Oct. 24. Yeongam is located about 236 miles (380 kilometers) southwest of Seoul.
"It's an interesting circuit," he said after his test run of the 3.48-mile (5.6-kilometer) track, according to Yonhap news agency.
Chandhok competed in the season's first 10 Grand Prix races for Spanish team HRT before being replaced by Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto for the past two and last month's Belgian Grand Prix.
Kim Jae-ho, an official of event organizers KAVO, said the venue is more than 90 percent complete and will be completed within this month. He said an inspection date of the venue by the world governing body of motor sports is still being worked out. AP
